{"id":3183,"date":"2013-07-17T01:35:07","date_gmt":"2013-07-17T01:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/?p=3183"},"modified":"2014-06-17T03:22:09","modified_gmt":"2014-06-17T03:22:09","slug":"aggressive-dogs-an-update-and-call-to-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/?p=3183","title":{"rendered":"Aggressive dogs  &#8211; an update and call to action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the next few days, I will post about another incident that happened with <a title=\"DAS website\" href=\"www.dallasanimalservices.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas Animal Services <\/a>downtown two weeks ago; it had a very disappointing outcome and the post will have a call to action for you dog lovers out there.\u00a0 But in the meantime, I wanted to post about some positive results with DAS and a neighborhood dog issue.<\/p>\n<p>If you have been following the aggressive loose dog issue in <a title=\"Winnetka Heights website\" href=\"http:\/\/winnetkaheights.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Winnetka Heights<\/a> over the last week, some progress has been made in the case of the two aggressive black dogs (a lab and a chow-mix) and the red dog \u2013 all of which were intact and wandering the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Neighborhood collaboration was key to being able to get information and documentation to Dallas Animal Services (DAS). Your facebook post, emails, security camera videos, and pictures were a huge big help in addressing the problem. Keep up the good work everyone!<\/p>\n<p>Due to the aggressive nature of the dogs and their perpensity to cross 12th street, Gypsy Dog Ops also reached out to <a title=\"Scott Griggs' facebook page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ScottGriggsDallas\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Griggs\u2019 <\/a>office.\u00a0\u00a0Councilman Griggs\u00a0was instrumental in getting this issue to the top of the priority list at DAS.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/photo-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3189 alignleft\" style=\"border: 5px solid white;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/photo-9-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"photo (9)\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/photo-9-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/photo-9-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/photo-9-80x60.jpg 80w, http:\/\/www.gypsydogops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/photo-9.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Thanks to great detective work by the neighbors, a DAS officer was able to confirm the dog\u2019s owners on 12<sup>th<\/sup> street. Once ownership was confirmed (DAS officers have to see the dogs in the owner\u2019s possession) the owners received 4 citations \u2013 2 for each dog. \u00a0\u00a0DAS will be following up with the dog owners and checking back in on the dogs.<\/p>\n<p>How can YOU help moving forward?\u00a0 Neighbors can help update DAS if the dogs are out roaming again in violation of animal confinement laws. \u00a0DAS needs documentation (pictures) if the dogs are out. <strong>If you see the dogs out again, please take pictures and send them to my attention via facebook or email.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Also please immediately call 311 and report the dogs and their location to DAS<\/strong>. Don\u2019t be surprised or discouraged if they say have 72 hours to respond. Make sure you also let me know; I can expedite getting the information to the right people at DAS, and the city, that are aware of the case.<\/p>\n<p>The hope is now that the dog owners are fully educated to <a title=\"DAS Animal Confinement Laws\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasanimalservices.org\/city_code.html\" target=\"_blank\">animal confinement laws<\/a>, as well as <a title=\"DAS Spay and Neuter Laws\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasanimalservices.org\/city_code.html\" target=\"_blank\">spay and neuter laws<\/a>, they will be better dog owners. If the dogs are out and endangering the neighborhood again, DAS now has recourse, with proper documentation, to intervene and take possession of the dogs.<\/p>\n<p>There may be additional updates about the aggressive black dogs, but that\u2019s it for today.\u00a0 Now onto the red dog.<\/p>\n<p>The red dog was caught by Raven. Great work Raven! She is working with Karen Simmons to get the dog medical attention. Karen took the dog to the vet where he got his vaccinations, was dewormed, and given antibiotics for his leg injury (from the dog fight).
