Our feral momma, affectionately know as Number Two<\/a>,\u00a0is amazing us every day with her adaptability and her sweet temperament.\u00a0 \u00a0As quickly as she is learning and adjusting, we are constantly looking towards next steps.\u00a0As much progress as she has made in the last two weeks, she is ready to work with someone that has the capacity to\u00a0train and socialize her all day long in a focused manner\u00a0that moves her towards our goal of getting her adopted into a forever family.<\/p>\n

We are going to send her away to boarding school aka dog camp (here in town) so that she can get that focused, accelerated, training and socialization over a two week period. The trainer we have chosen has experience with unsocialized and fearful dogs (although she is not really fearful any more\u00a0 – hurray). We will also be visiting and working with \u201cTwo\u201d and the trainer over the two week period.<\/p>\n

K-9 University<\/a> in Garland has given us a generous discount and they will be transferring lifetime training support to her forever family. If you are interested in adopting Two, we can get into the details of what \u201clifetime\u201d training means, there are some stipulations, but it is a great deal. When she graduates, she should have all the basic commands under her belt and present as a balanced adoptable dog.<\/p>\n

How will we get \u201cTwo\u201d to school?<\/p>\n

First, our goal this weekend is is to teach \u201cTwo\u201d how to ride in a car so we can transport her, without drama, to the training facility. We\u2019ll post pics of her first car ride EVER this weekend. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Second, we need to fund her tuition. We generally don’t plead for donations – but this dog and her pack\u2019s story is very special to GDO and to our neighborhood. \u00a0Her success will provide a model for rehabilitating unsocialized dogs that were born and raised on the streets of our neighborhood.<\/p>\n

This is a great opportunity for community members to help neighborhood animals without having to take a feral dog into their own home. Tasha<\/a> and Two\u2019s legacy are very important to GDO and to\u00a0the message that we send to our neighborhood and our city about animals. \u00a0Animals are not disposable and it will take work to treat them with the love and respect they deserve. It will take all of us doing what we can towards a common goal.
