We are pleased to share that he is one of several dogs from the 7 dog pack dogs that we were able to help this year in the annual dog pack migration and subsequent round-up. We are also please to share that with this years trapping efforts, we have at last picked up the last identified dogs from Tasha’s pack Of course there are more loose and feral dogs and dogs packs in the neighborhood, but removing Tasha, Tasha’s kids and her grandkids has really made a dent in our pack problem. It takes a village to help the city’s urban feral, hard to catch, and unsocialized dogs. Frankie was no exception. When we first picked up Frankie from the shelter in October, our neighbor Dee Dee sponsored his adoption fee from DAS and the chain of generosity kept going from there. Through the generosity of neighbors and the loyal Gypsy Dog Ops following, Frankie was able to get the care and attention he needed to become a loving valued family member. A big shout out to Arapaho Road Animal Clinic, their staff and to Dr Perkins and Dr May for helping Frankie get the expert medical attention and support he needed to become a healthy pup. A big thank you to to long time Winnetka Heights resident and neighbor Robbie for reading about Frankie and the pack on our website and making a extremely generous pay pal donation towards their care. To GDO alum Stella’s parents, to GDO alum Cisco’s parents, to Auntie Leslie, and to Auntie Bud – thank you for your unwavering support of our efforts. To our neighbors Aaron and Kay who surprised us by paying the balance on Frankie’s heartworm treatment while they were at the clinic with their own dogs – thank you. Your generosity brought the long time Arapaho Road Animal Clinic receptionist Lynda to tears (and of course – she made me cry too). After vaccinations, being neuter, getting a microchip, several months of treatment for a nasty respiratory condition followed by heartworm treatment, Frankie is now officially a healthy, social, normal party pants dog. He was adopted by a wonderful family that has both kids and another dog for Frankie to hang out with. He is blossoming as a domesticated spoiled house dog and valued family member. While Frankie was being treated and being socialized, he luxuriated on gently used dogs beds that were donated to the cause. He partied in gently used sweaters donated in memory of a beloved neighborhood dog named Winslow and generous neighbors who had never met him donated to his care with toys, food, and by spreading the word about him via social networks and social media. Ultimately, Frankie found his home because of all of YOU! Please remember that Frankie was deemed “unadoptable” by Dallas Animal Services simply because he was shy and scared. Frankie was not aggressive in anyway, but an unadoptable designation was equal to a death sentence at the shelter. All dogs have value and our success stories show that a little extra time and care can yield amazing results with street dogs. Please help dogs like Frankie have a chance and help us change how Dallas Animal Services does business. Check out the Oak Cliff Animal Initiative and take 5 minutes to email your city leaders and ask them to enact change so that dogs like Frankie and the other loose dogs from his pack have a fair chance. You don’t have to live in Oak Cliff to support the initiative. Look for additional posts on Frankie’s pack mate Number Two and her puppies, follow them on our Facebook page. They will all be looking for forever homes too.
