It’s time! Our second annual Oak Cliff Animal Initiative, an animal issues Town Hall Meeting co-hosted by City Councilman Scott Griggs, Gypsy Dog Ops, and Animal Commissioner Chris Watts, will be held Saturday, March 28th
Date: Saturday, March 28th
Time: 10:00 am-12 noon
Location: Kidd Spring Recreation Center
What’s the goal of this meeting?
While the adoption side of Dallas Animal Services is making great strides, the City and Dallas Animal Services have not been able to address and solve the loose and stray animal issues in our neighborhoods. The goal of this meeting is to see how neighbors can collaborate, communicate, educate, and advocate towards common animal welfare and quality of life goals.
We will talk about what are we are doing as a community, what we are willing to do as a community moving forward, and what we expect our city services (DAS, Code Compliance, 311) to do to address the extraordinary animal issues in our neighborhood. We will be looking at both short term and long term solutions, collaborations, and resources that are available to our neighborhoods.
Who is this meeting for?
This meeting will bring together Oak Cliff neighborhoods such as: Beckly Club, Dallas Land & Loan, El Tivoli, Glen Oaks, Hampton Hills, all Kessler neighborhoods, Kidd Springs, Kiestwood, Kings Highway, Lake Cliff, L.O. Daniel, North Cliff, Ravinia Heights, Stephens Parks neighborhoods, Sunset Hills, Bishop Arts, Elmwood, Wynnewood, Winnetka Heights and more. You can get the full list from the OOCCL map below. If your neighborhood is not on the map and you would like to attend, give us a shout.
The meeting is open to ALL listed neighbors and neighborhood stakeholders. Stakeholders include the people who live, work, support, and visit Oak Cliff. This includes: residents, business owners, realtors, developers, crime watch groups, animal advocates, animal rescuers, our neighborhood police officers, and representatives from our schools.
We have been making steady progress on animal issues with City leader and we want to share that progress with you. We also have some new concerns we want the City to take seriously and we want to create a venue where the communities issues can be heard.
This meeting is designed to give everyone a chance to talk collaboratively in non-confrontational environment about the unique animal issues challenging our neighborhoods. With that in mind, our meeting is being co-sponsored by Scott Grigg’s office. We will invited the Mayor’s liaison on animal issues, our District 1 City Council representative, Scott Griggs, our District 1 Animal Commissioner, Chris Watts, and representatives from the District Attorney’s Office.
This meeting is powerful opportunity to bring together our concerns, ideas, and city resources to make our neighborhoods the best they can be. Oak Cliff neighborhoods are known for their thought leadership; we like to think out of the box and take care of our people and animals.
Last year’s meeting was a powerful first step towards changing how our City does business regarding loose animals in our neighborhoods. Let’s keep that momentum going and pull together with the city’s leadership and solve this for all Oak Cliff and all of Dallas’ residents. See you March 28th!
Here’s the official link to the invite. Please try to RSVP so we can make sure our room is big enough for the crowd.
